Hey Ho the
interwebs, how do?
Right now there are many various DVD sales online, so I thought I would draw your attention to the very best offers. Firstly we have the
HMV Sale which offers up to
70% Off of selected DVDs! However I've been looking more at the
Play Sale which has tons of quality DVDs for only a fiver. So please find below my own personal selection of the best value
DVD's on offer from Play:
28 Days Later / 28 Weeks Later Double Pack
- This is damn good value, for two of the best horror/zombie films of recent years. I actually preferred the second film, which was truly scary and effective.
King Kong Deluxe Extended Edition
- If that was good value, then this is stupidly good value! Just look at the amount of stuff on offer in this set - for £5! And it's a real good film to boot..
Hot Shots Double Pack
- Two of the finest spoofs out there. The second one in particular has a whole array of hilarious and classic scenes.
An American Tail 1&2
"There are no cats in America, and the streets are made of cheese!" Short Cuts
- A fantastic (and cheap) way of getting into Robert Altman. This film is phenomenal.. a series of intertwining tales examining love/loss/friendship/death in downtown LA. Fantastic individual stories that come together as one brilliant whole. As reviewed previously
here.
The Truman Show Special Collector Edition
- A five star masterpiece in my mind, which doesn't lose it's power even after many repeat viewings. Oh, and in case I don't see ya..
Good afternoon, good evening and goodnight!
Taxi Driver Special Edition
- An absolutely amazing set, which is a real bargain for the price. As reviewed previously
here.
Hard Eight / Sydney
- Director Paul Thomas Anderson's (Boogie Nights/Magnolia/There Will be Blood) first feature film. It's a
really really good film, with a slow burning, but intense atmosphere, and solid story. I have it on Region 1 Special Edition, but well worth picking up even without any special features on it.
Following
- Direct Chris Nolan's (Memento, Batman Begins, Dark Knight) first film, made with hardly any budget and shot completely in black & white. However it's a really engrossing, clever and well written little film.
And last, but
certainly not least....
Firehouse Dog!!
- He's a dog, and he works in a fire station. Just look at those shades - neat!
The absolute must-have classic!
And here's what I ended up buying:The Kill Bill Collection
- These are
separate for a fiver, but this collection works out cheaper at £7.99. I love the Kill Bill films, but like an idiot.. had never got round to buying them.
The Hudsucker Proxy
Raising Arizona
- This goes towards fleshing out my
Coen Brothers DVD collection, buying films that I only have on video otherwise. The
hudsucker Proxy is a genius, somewhat
underrated and misunderstood film. Raising Arizona I've only seen once, and really need to see again. The
Coen Brothers are the best
filmmaking force in existence.
Sleepers
- Another fantastic film that I own on video and wanted on DVD also.
Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same- Led
Zep totally rock my socks.
Heat Special Edition
- I've never owned this film on DVD, despite it being one of the best crime capers of all time.
1984
- Fantastic adaptation of a fantastic book.
Deliverance 35th Anniversary Deluxe Edition
- I saw this film for the first time just the other week on
LoveFilm and I thought it was absolutely phenomenal. I can't wait to learn more about the shoot and so on from the documentaries and various other special features. Read my
LoveFilm review of it
here.

And that's all for now folks. See ya soon!
