Listen up you, fuckers, you screw heads. Here is a film that stands up to this day, which stands up to the best of the best, the classics, the modern times, a universal film still relevant to all.

Here is a film that stood up!

Here is..

The Taxi Driver 2-Disc Special Edition!

Hahaa, what a great introduction eh? ..what do you mean no??

Well I recently purchased the latest Special Edition of this, which marks the 30th anniversary of its release I believe. I've already mentioned the existing edition as one of my top 10 favourite DVD's here. All of that hinged on the fact that it had such a brilliant making of documentary with it. Maybe it was a bit silly to include it in the list for that very reason, but it was such a compelling story that I felt obliged to. THIS however will lay any doubts to rest, as it's a complete comprehensive package. It doesn't have the same documentary (so I might not chuck the old one afterall) but it does have a series of featurettes covering all aspects of the film, generally taking a step back and looking at it's broad appeal and continuing relevance. It's good to see everyone commenting on the documentaries, from all of the cast members, to producers, Paul Shrader the writer, and even fans such as Oliver Stone. (Interesting tidbit: Oliver Stone was in a film class taught by Marty Scorcese!) There's also several commentary tracks and various other features. My favourite part of the package is learning about Scorsese and the way in which he directs the film. You come to realise just how masterfall he is behind the camera, and especially how he helps to create the mood and emphasise Travis' alienation. I guess he's a master because he spent so much time learning about films himself!

Anyway, the Taxi Driver Special Edition is out now! I shouldn't have to pimp up the actual film because.. well, obviously it's a classic. 30 years and still going strong, we'll see you for the 50th super-super HD anniversary then!
